DM Setting Scripts That Book Calls (Templates You Can Copy)
DM setting scripts for openers, qualification, objections, booking, follow-ups and no-shows, written to sound like a person, plus how to turn them into an AI setter's instructions instead of copy-paste messages.
Good DM setting scripts aren't word-for-word messages. They're a structure (open, qualify, transition, book, confirm, follow up) with example lines you adapt to each person. Copy-pasting the same message to everyone is exactly what makes DMs feel like spam.
Below are the templates I use as a starting point, both for human setters and as instructions for the AI setters I build in ReplySetter. Swap the bracketed parts for your own offer.
The structure
- Opener: acknowledge what they did, ask one easy question.
- Discovery: goal, current situation, what's in the way.
- Qualification: urgency, ability to invest, commitment.
- Transition: connect their problem to the call.
- Booking: two specific times.
- Confirmation: time, link, ask for a reply.
- Follow-up: for anyone who goes quiet.
Opener scripts
After a lead magnet:
hey [name]! glad you grabbed the [freebie]. what made you want it?
After a story reply:
haha love that. are you working on [topic] right now or just curious?
After a new follow:
hey [name], thanks for the follow! what caught your eye, the [topic] stuff?
Inbound "info" message:
hey [name]! happy to help. what are you hoping to get help with?
Discovery scripts
got it. what have you tried so far?
what's been the hardest part?
if we fast-forward 90 days and this is sorted, what's different for you?
React to each answer before asking the next one:
ah yeah, that's super common when you're [their situation]. how long has it been like that?
Qualification scripts
Urgency:
is this something you want to fix now, or more of a "someday" thing?
Commitment:
on a scale of 1-10, how serious are you about sorting this?
Ability to invest (soft):
just so I don't waste your time, our programs are an investment, usually somewhere around [range]. is that in the ballpark of what you'd consider if it was the right fit?
If the answer to any of these is a clear no, be kind and give them something useful instead of a call.
Transition scripts
honestly what you described with [their problem] is exactly what we work on. want to hop on a quick call so we can map out what that'd look like for you?
sounds like you're a great fit. the next step is a free [20-minute] call with [closer], no pressure. want me to find a time?
Booking scripts
I've got [day] at [time] or [day] at [time], which suits you better?
If neither works:
no worries, what days are usually best for you?
Confirmation scripts
perfect, you're booked for [day] at [time] ([timezone]). here's the link: [link]
can you reply "yes" so I know you got it?
Objection scripts
"How much is it?"
fair question! it depends on what you need, which is what the call is for. most people invest around [range]. want to grab a time and [closer] can give you exact numbers?
"Is this legit?"
totally get it, there's a lot of rubbish out there. here's [result/testimonial]. the call is free and there's zero pressure, you'll know within 10 minutes if it's for you.
"I need to think about it."
of course. what's the main thing you're weighing up?
"I don't have time."
makes sense. that's actually why the call is useful, we figure out if it can work around your schedule. would a 15-minute slot early or late in the day work?
I go deeper on these in how to handle objections in DMs.
Follow-up scripts
A few hours later:
hey [name], just bumping this in case it got buried 🙂
Next day:
quick one, [useful tip relevant to their goal]. still keen to chat about [their goal]?
A few days later:
hey [name], should I close your file or are you still interested in [goal]?
More in how to follow up with leads who ghost you.
No-show script
hey [name], we missed you on the call earlier, hope all's good! want to grab another time? I have [day] at [time] or [day] at [time].
Turning scripts into AI setter instructions
Here's the mistake I made early on: I pasted scripts into an AI as exact messages, and it sounded as robotic as a copy-paste setter. What works better is turning each section of the script into a step with a goal and example lines.
For example, a qualification step in ReplySetter might say:
Goal: find out their main goal, how long they've struggled, and whether they're ready to start in the next month.
Ask one question at a time and react to each answer before asking the next. Example questions: "what have you tried so far?", "is this something you want to fix now?". When you know all three, move to the booking step. If they're clearly not ready, offer the free guide and end politely.
The AI then writes each message fresh, in the character's voice, using the examples as a guide, and the job flow moves to the next step when the goal is met. That's why the conversation feels natural while still following your script.
If you want to try it, ReplySetter lets you build the flow and test it against real DMs in a sandbox before anything is sent. I also wrote a guide on writing a prompt for an AI setter.
Frequently asked questions
What's the best DM opener for appointment setting?
One that references what the person did and asks one easy question. Avoid pitching in the first message.
How long should a DM setting conversation be?
Long enough to qualify, usually 5 to 15 messages. Booking before you know if they're a fit leads to no-shows and wasted calls.
Should I mention price in DMs?
A range is often better than dodging, especially when people ask directly. It filters out people who could never afford it.
Can I use these scripts with an AI setter?
Yes. Turn each section into a step with a goal and example lines, rather than exact messages, so the AI adapts to each person.
How many follow-ups should I send?
Three to five over a week or two is common. Always stop as soon as the person replies or says no.
